The Mountainsmith Day hip pack with the Strapette system sold separately offers a very good solution and has become my preferred day hiking pack. The pack has a super-padded waist belt, easily carries all my food and gear 13 liter total volume plus two 1-liter Nalgenes, with multiple external gear attachment points and overall high quality construction.
The Strapette can be a little clunky but its comfortable and does an excellent job at keeping the pack from flopping around while transferring surprisingly little load to the shoulders. I would say the Strapette is not optional, its definitely needed to keep the pack solid and secure. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post. I already ordered Rowdy a new Mountainsmith pack as his last one only lasted about miles. For my use I go with either: 1. Gregory Zulu 30 full-size day-pack, which has enough cushioning around the waist so it can easily be adjusted to vary the amount of weight on my shoulders, down to none at all if I want.

Brooks Trace Review. Cycling Clothing. The Baleaf Bib Short Review. The vintage Mountainsmith packs were pretty much top of the line during their time. He used d cordura on his packs. Patrick also had a line of packs for cycling called Cyclesmith. He used the same lumbar packs as his other ones but the only difference was they had reflective strips on them. There was also seat bags and panniers.
One of his most poplar packs the "World Cup" was in this line up as well. I have catalogs for , , and I will try and scan them and add them to this thread. I will also add some photos of vintage mountainsmith packs I own and one that I am modifying right now.

The reviews are pretty good. Even went a head and ordered the strapetts for it based on reviews. After the 22nd I'll be able to post pics. I've never tried any of their packs, but I do use their covers for most of my backpacks.

The Tour I put in my checked bag and it goes with me as well. I use it as my Day Bag usually with the strappettes but sometimes just the messenger bag strap. It has a light weight rain jacket rolled up and strapped to the bottom and a ml Ti water bottle and small SS cup nested with the H2O bottle. Love my Mountainsmith, its a great daypack.
Here's my MountainSmith Buggaboo Most used and best dang day pack I have ever had I have a later years bugaboo. Definitly a great pack.
